Letters and Memoirs of Mikhael Makarashvili
Abstract
There are introduced letters and memoirs of Mikhael Makarashvili. Mikhael was born in 1903. Mikhael,
already a student at Tbilisi State University, went to study abroad in 1922 with other Georgian students. First, he studied in Germany (Heidelberg university) and later continued his studies at Grenoble University (France).
He studied there from 1927 to 1928. Lived at various places in Fontainebleau, Grenoble and, finally, settled in Paris. Mikhael Makarashvili was married there to Polish woman Elizabeth Glass. Couple had two children: Giorgi
and Ines, both were born in Monteneblo. Giorgi served in the French Army. He received higher education there and worked at banking when was sent to South America. He met his future wife, Karmen in Lima, got married
and settled there. In 1962 Mikhael and Elisabeth visited their son in Peru. Emigrant Mikhael Makarashvili often
held meetings with Georgian public figures, visiting European countries to raise awareness of Georgian culture.
In 1966, he attended Georgian ballet “Gorda” and met with eminent Georgian artist Vera Tsignadze.
Mikhael Makarashvili died in December, 1967, at the age of 64. He was buried at the Georgian cemetery
of Leuville.
