Proceedings of the International Conference Dedicated to Davitgareji

Abstract

The Davitgareji conference proceedings have been published. They contain the papers presented at an International conference “Davitgareji – Multidisciplinary Study and Development Strategy” held on 18-20 April, 2019 in Tbilisi. The volume consists of a prologue and five parts. Europa Nostra and the European Investment Bank Institute mission report is presented in Part 1 of the Proceedings. Mainly the state of interior plastering and wall paintings is assessed, and actions necessary for safeguarding and development of the monastic complexes is proposed. Part 2 of the volume contains scientific contributions which cover various aspects of the study: historical geography, archaeology, monastic life, hagiography, graffiti, architecture, wall paintings and icons. Papers about rock-cut monasteries, their architecture and wall paintings conceived in an international context can be found in part 3 of the collection. Part 4 contains papers on natural heritage of Davitgareji. Papers in part 5 of the volume concern the issues of site management and preservation. The papers present an overview of all aspects of the study and latest scientific knowledge on Davitgareji.
