New Book about the Capital City of Georgia
Abstract
On January 11, 2020, at the historical hall of the Tbilisi city Assembly was held a presenta - tion of the book “The Capital of Free Georgia. Tbilisi in 1918-1921” authored by Otar Janelidze, Aleksandre Daushvili and Mirian Khositashvili. The work was prepared by Tbilisi City Assembly and the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia. Editor of the book is Professor Zaza Abashidze, the Director of the Georgian National Center of Manuscripts. Presentation was attended by the deputies of the Tbilisi City Assembly, the staff of the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, historians, philologists, students and representatives of the Tbilisi society . Before the presentation of the book in the big hall of the Tbilisi city Assembly was opened an exhibition of copies of unknown and lesser-known photo-documents discovered by the authors of the book in archives. The book presents of the very interesting facts of the cultural and urban life of Tbilisi. There are discussed the issues of theatrical life of Tbilisi, the birth and first steps of Georgian cinema, club work, development of artistic life, the activities of the authorities to popularize cultural knowledge among citizens etc. On a ground of a newly obtained archival data, also periodicals and memoirs are represented the daily life of Tbilisi, interesting stories that happened in the mentioned years, the specifics of urban developments, types urban transport, the criminal situation etc. At the end of the event Marika Darchia, Deputy Chairperson of the Tbilisi Assembly, gave the copies of the book “Capital of Free Georgia. Tbilisi in 1918-1921” to the audience as a gift; as for authors: she wished them fruitful work and professional achievements in future.Downloads
